Sitzundjibers |
When our club was formed in 1955, they wanted an unusual name that would accentuate some of the exciting things they did, namely skiing and sailing, but with some humor as well. Just "Skiers and Sailors" seemed too serious. Would the non-skiers and non-sailors be scared away? How about relating to people who are more likely to fall trying to ski than the masters of the sport? Somehow, that thinking led to our name in these 3 parts:
"Sitz" = the mark your "seat" makes in the snow when you fall while skiing, in German
+ "und" = "and" in German
+ "jibers" = Sailors
So "Sitz - und - jibers" was put together as "Sitzundjibers" to become our club's name. Of course, we often shorten that to just "Sitz".
